Valentine's Day

I usually try to avoid this day for many years because I always seem to feel awkward around the whole pink-red-hearts-candy-chocolates...and so on. I believe part (or most) of the reason is that I have never been a boy/girl relationship before. And for some reason, and I'm totally being honest, I'd hope that someone would surprise me this day...which is pretty selfish of me, if you think about it. I have experienced over 20 Valentine's Day in my life and it has been the same thing over and over again. However, after recalling a slight promise I made this year, I thought about wanting to do something new/different/out-of-the-ordinary. I'm really trying to do things a lot different this year...which really means I want to try new things.

Last night, I made brownies to bring to my internship. I made 128 Valentine cards (or rather, written some "love" Bible verses on them) and had given them out to random people on campus. I also had several bags of candy, which I had given to a few of my friends (whom I either just met or had recently gotten to know a few months ago). These things were all new to me. I had never done anything like this before, but as though I had gone through this new revelation, I viewed "Valentine's Day" in a whole new light. No longer did I view it as a day were I secretly wanted people/someone to do something for me but that I actually wanted to do things for people. And you know what? I really enjoyed it. It's such a good feeling to know that you did something to brighten someone's day!

Also, among the other new things I've done today was that I attended a "Valentine's Ball/Dance" on a whim today. I didn't really know about it until an hour before the event when I bumped into my friend who was going to attend the event. The good thing about the event was that I didn't have to wear anything fancy...AND, I got to learn the tango & rumba for FREE!! It was pretty cool. I just hope I remember the moves when it comes to dancing with my future soul mate. :]
