The Next Chapter

So, I finally graduated with my Bachelor's in Social Work and a Minor in Art. Finally!! After 6 agonizing years as an undergraduate, I finally made it! Haha, I kid. It wasn't that agonizing. Maybe the first 4 years, lol...jk.

Some folks from my class. There I am, the token Asian friend!
Anyways, it was a beautiful commencement. My family & my best friend were able to attend the wonderful ceremony. I was kinda bummed that the graduates didn't get to walk the aisle in an orderly fashion with Pomp and Circumstance, March No. 1 In D playing in the background. No...as soon as we (the graduates) entered the stadium, the commencement officers (or whatever you call them) ushered us to the front rows of the stadium. We were allowed to sit anywhere we wanted,  as long as there was a clear separation between the Bachelor, Masters, and PhD graduates...and specifically distinct from the Nursing and the whole bunch of the Social Work + Public Health people. Clearly, you no longer had to sit in alphabetical order. I mean, pshh, it’s college…no one does that since high school, obviously. (And I mean that sarcastically, of course). Basically, you were given a card with your name and bar code on it. All you gotta do is hand the card to the person and they just read your name. Simple as that. No confusion about what school or college you’re graduating from since your name is already printed on the program.

My beautiful best friend (on the Right) & I.
Other than that very interesting commencement, I had a wonderful dinner at Bahama Breeze with the people I love dearly. (Side note: the dish I ordered was delicious. I forgot the name, but it’s usually rare for me to order something that’s not a burger or chicken tenders).

Moving on…it is almost the end of the month of May which means it is also about a month since I graduated. So you must be wondering what my plans are now that I am a recent grad. Well, I’m in the process of applying for grad school. Yes, I plan to go back to school once more so I can obtain a higher degree! Not only that, but I seriously want to get my Master’s so I could have a license to practice clinical social work…which means I can legally perform counseling & therapy! YAY! If I can apply and get my stuff in before the deadline, God-willing I start the program in the fall!! That’s about 3 months from now!! AHH!

Additionally, I’ve been trying to apply for jobs. One in retail (like Starbucks) and the other, Social work related. No luck, yet. I feel like it’s hard to get a job these days. It’s really about “who you know.” Ah, well…I’m gonna keep trusting God to really open up doors for me.

Lastly (and very last, I promise), I’m really excited because I’ll be attending the NEXT Conference. This (I mean, “Next”) conference happens every year during Memorial day weekends. I believe it is hosted by this author, Joshua Harris, who wrote books like I Kissed Dating Goodbye and Boy Meets Girl. Usually these conferences are about dating, relationships, and God. I was so ecstatic to hear that it was going to be in Orlando this year, which means I don’t need to buy a plane ticket…which means I get to save money!! However, this year the topic isn’t about dating and stuff like that. It’s going to be about Jesus, the Bible, Science, and World Religions!! At first I was kinda bummed, but when I think about it, these topics have actually been so interesting to me. I honestly can’t wait to hear more about this stuff! So, here I am, writing this blog at 2:25am when I should be packing right now. But I was just really excited and I had to put this all down on this blog…as a reminder of how excited I am. Haha! I will update, or whatever (maybe), when I get to the hotel. FREE INTERNET! Thank God!
