Dear 12-year-old me...
Those weird feelings you're experiencing right now is known as attraction. You are attracted to the opposite sex. There are quite a few guys who have caught your eye, haven't they? You think they're cute, but let me tell you...that's just their exterior. What they look like on the outside does not necessarily mean they're the same on the inside. And he can say all the right things; calling you beautiful and saying that you're one in a million. I can spare you the drama and tell you right now that he doesn't really mean what he says because he doesn't even know your heart. Even what we look like or appear to be on the outside isn't necessarily what we are on the inside, am I right? We still have a lot of work to do, don't we?
Well, you saw that boy and girl kissing in the stairwell and you realize that this stuff doesn't just happen in the movies. You have a few friends who have boyfriends and you're curious what that would look like for you. So this becomes the start of your daydreams, your fairytale fantasies...wishful thinking.
You'll feel like you're not worth something unless someone says that you are. But let me tell you right now, that lie isn't true. Do you get what I'm trying to say? You are beautiful, to Him, you are beautiful. You do not need the approval of boys, friends, classmates, teachers, family, or cliques to validate your worth because you are already worth so much more--more than the most expensive gem in the world, more than the universe. In fact, your life is so precious it was bought at an extremely high price. Learn this and discover what I mean when I say that you are highly treasured. Start by reading that love story, written from His heart to yours--the Bible. You might think it's just another book, but when you take the time to read it and ruminate on the words, you'll find that it is jam-packed full of sweet goodness! "Taste and see that the Lord is good" [Psalm 34:8].
How many nights have you cried yourself to sleep because you wondered when you'll finally get to meet your prince charming? There will be times when you'll be tired of waiting and you'll be tempted to settle for the next guy who says he likes you. But when you do feel that way and when those thoughts keep creeping into your mind, stop and think about where these feelings are coming from.
True love waits, therefore, patience is a virtue.
Waiting is so hard. It really is. But I want you to know that it will all be worth it in the end. I will not tell you whether you will or will not marry some day because it isn't your place to know these things right now. It should be our desire, our aim to pursue God and love Him with all our mind, heart, soul, and strength [Luke 10:27]. If we're going to say that Christ is everything, then we must live that truth as we believe it to be true. We must rest in our identity in Him because He is our Rock and He is our firm Foundation, everything else is just sinking sand or a passing shadow. Find joy in the moments right now because there is a lot to learn; a lot to grow from. Seek to understand who God is and you'll begin to understand what it means to be a godly woman and to develop the qualities of a godly wife. A man after God's own heart will seek after a woman after that same heart.
